Article by Stephanie Sissons

Real estate is the largest investment most people are likely to make during their lives. In this these times of economic struggle selling your home in a timely manner for top dollar is hard to accomplish. Your house must be in tip-top shape to stand apart while holding buyer’s interest so they can imagine themselves living there. Buying a home is purely based on emotion. The buyer needs to be grabbed immediately - while he/she is pulling up to your house. So now you may be asking yourself how is this done. Here are some easy tips that offer bang-for-your-buck.

THE EXTERIOR of your home needs to attract buyers. In summer ensure the lawn is manicured and weed-free. Throughout winter make sure the walk is shoveled. Also painting the front door a modern color can grab buyers’ attention.

ENTRANCEWAYS/ FOYERS are the first glimpse people get of your house. It should be warm and welcoming. A mirror helps make a small area appear larger. Try standing at your front door to see what buyers will see -  any rooms that are visible from that vantage point should be uncluttered and clean.

Some people that were regular visitors of the Medicine Hat Gift Guide (or MHGiftGuide) may be wondering what happened to it and why you are now being re-directed to this site if you try to go to it. Basically, Shop the Hat is the "evolved" version of the Medicine Hat Gift Guide. We have completely re-branded ourselves and re-focused our goals. We found that the older website could no longer support our plans and ideas for the future of shopping locally in Medicine Hat.

All information that was previously on the Medicine Hat Gift Guide should be available on the site now; however, it might be in a slightly different location. When it comes to supporting local, it doesn't get any better than this - Medicine Hat Meat Traders is opening a storefront right on Kingsway Ave! Saturday, October 3rd being the last Farmers' Market of the year, they hope to open by November. Originally the location was 7 miles North East of Medicine Hat, this establishment will then bring their produce to the Medicine Hat community - all year round. They will be opening at 669 Kingsway Avenue, across from The Licence Bureau and we should be seeing a "Coming Soon" sign down there right away. They will be selling their line of sausage and beef jerky, also hoping to feature some sausage making supplies such as spices, kits, or wood chips for those who like the do-it-yourself method.

Shop the HatWith the success of their online restaurant directory, next week TriCube Media will launch Medicine Hat’s first-ever online community business directory.
Shop the Hat is a full-featured community site where local retailers can catalogue their wears and services for the general public.

“It really gives a sense of what is in our community so people will shop here,” said Shannon Scott, TriCube’s director of multimedia marketing. “There is an emphasis on shopping locally. You don’t have to go somewhere else for these products or this service, we have it here.”

Interactive features allow companies to upload images or information, serving as a mini-website or an extension of their current site. For newer or smaller businesses that do not have a website, Shop the Hat can serve as a starting point in creating a digital presence, she added.
