Since 1981 Kevin and Sharon Pudwell have been serving up traditional Italian cuisine to their customers.
Mario’s Restaurant is their beautiful Italian restaurant located in historic downtown Medicine Hat.
“Customers will often ask me is there is, or ever was, a “Mario,” says Kevin. “The answer is yes. Mario DalCollo was our partner until 1988 and we pride ourselves on using his recipes to this day. Our meat sauce, tomato sauce, alfredo and wine sauces are all from his family recipe books, are tried and true. We would never change them. Caesar dressing and house dressings are made on site with our signature house spice.”
Some of the more popular items include Fritto Misto, Steak Mario with red wine and mushroom sauce, and a traditional chicken parmesan.
“Icelandic scampi are the Cadillac of lobster — prepared with fresh garlic butter and our house spices — and are truly delicious,” says Sharon.
Sharon says Mario’s restaurant is well known for its carte service. Their wait staff takes pride in preparing your Caesar salad tableside.
“Chateaubriand (for two) is a lovers’ delight — a delicious 16 oz filet mignon broiled to perfection and served with fresh vegetables, carved and flambeed at your table,” Sharon says. “It doesn’t take second place to our signature peppercorn steak — a 10 oz New York seasoned with cracked peppercorns and flamed table side.
She says Mario’s offers many delicious desserts.
“The home made Tiramisu, our cherries or peach flambe — flamed at your table and poured over ice-cream — are by far most popular.”
Mario’s Restaurant is about personal service. Both Sharon and Kevin like to greet you when you come into their restaurant as they would in their home. The couple works hard to ensure the meals coming from their kitchen are of the highest quality and value.
“We pride ourselves in buying locally, from Medicine Hat Wholesale and Brewmaster,” says Kevin. “They work closely with us to maintain a high quality in all our menu items.”
Both Sharon and Kevin love the City of Medicine Hat and are always humbled by their loyal clientele.
“Medicine Hat has been very kind to us — making Mario’s their destination restaurant for all their special occasions, or just a night out,” Sharon says. “To add to your summer dining experience Mario’s added a beautiful patio for summer service. In true Mario’s style all menu items are served on the patio with tableside service.”
She says the couple truly loves the restaurant business.
“There is something to be said for getting up everyday and going to work at something you love.”
