Description

This is an annual event in Empress - a tiny hamlet that straddles the Alberta/Saskatchewan border north of Medicine Hat. The Artisan Open House is traditionally staged the first weekend in June and is well worth the trip! This is real cowboy country...cactus, coyotes, even a few longhorns...but against all odds it's possible to make a living selling ART in Empress and the artists and their wares are featured on the That's Empressive website.

Where's Empress? You might ask!!!

It's north of Medicine Hat, north and east of the Suffield Army Range, it's two blocks from Saskatchewan, it's near the confluence of the Red Deer and South Saskatchewan rivers, it's south of Oyen (Where's Oyen?) and if that's not enough it was (is?) probably smack dab in the center of the Canadian prairie dust bowl.
