Where:
St Barnabas' Anglican Church - Medicine Hat
Category:

Description

Written in 1843, A Christmas Carol may be the best loved fictional work in the English language. Author Charles Dickens wrote and performed a solo theatrical version of his famous story for many years, playing all the characters and providing the narration.

On December 2nd, you can experience the laughter, tears and joy of the original in the warm, historic atmosphere of St Barnabas Anglican Church with John D. Huston as Charles Dickens. Based on Dickens's specially edited script, Huston gives a lively and authentic performance; you'll hear every character speak with their own voice; see each scene created out of the author's own words. The beloved story appears before you woven from the interplay of Dickens's richly-crafted text, Huston's bravura performance and your own imagination.

Huston is well known as a veteran solo performer. Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol is now on its 19th annual Canadian tour. This astonishing tour de force presentation has been described as “mesmerizing,” “powerful” and “Christmas magic” by reviewers and audiences across the country. This will be Huston’s only Alberta appearance in a very busy season. "It's a very Dickensian schedule," the actor notes, "he kept a killer pace. Luckily, travel is much more comfortable and much faster now."

So this year rediscover the magic of Christmas Past: come spend an evening with Scrooge, the Cratchits and of course, Charles Dickens: a rare and enchanting holiday must see!

"You'll be haunted if you miss it." Saskatoon Star-Phoenix “powerful one-man theatre...in the hands of a master storyteller.” The National Post
